The grand rematch from the Grandest stage of them All. Brock Lesnar Vs Roman Reigns, The most expected match on the WrestleMania Match card is set and you can believe that!
Roman Reigns battled against the odds of defeating six other superstars to lay his claim to Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title. Reigns defeated the like of John Cena, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman, The Miz, and Elias, in the Elimination Chamber match, which was to decide the number one contender for the Universal Championship. This was due to Shinsuke Nakamura winning the Royal Rumble and Brock Lesnar (or rather the universal championship) having no opponent at WrestleMania.
Brock Lesnar won the Universal Championship from Goldberg at Wrestlemania 33. Come WrestleMania, he would have held the title a little over a year, which is a record in title’s history. However, that being said Lesnar defended his title only five times in this duration, which was pointed out by Reigns on Raw, following his victory at the Elimination Chamber.
Following a no show by Lesnar on the night after Elimination Chamber, Reigns said that Lesnar feels entitled and hides behind his contract, which allows him to show up whenever he wants. He said Lesnar did not respect the WWE and neither for the Universal Championship. That he had no respect for fans, and he was maybe busy with Dana White while all the superstars that the crowd boo are actually busting off to entertain the crowd (ouch! that one was cold! Who said Reigns couldn’t cut a promo) But he would defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania and become the Universal Champion. However, the following week, Paul Heyman (the beast’s advocate) shows up. That’s right one month until WrestleMania, the champion still is a no show and sends his lawyer to do his bidding. Apparently this is what Reigns said too. In response to Heyman saying that Lesnar would be on Raw next week, Reigns asked him to convey a message and ask him to come prepare for a fight and not just to cut a promo, and thus issuing his challenge to Lesnar.
Outperforming six of the brightest and the most talented superstars on the roster at Elimination Chamber and Roman Reigns becoming the number one contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Champion. It was no surprise, when the outcome of the hellish Chamber match was in front of us. A no brainer really. In fact, Roman was speculated to win the Rumble itself, but like last year, this year too, the last man standing spot was clinched by a Smackdown superstar, king of strong style, Shinsuke Nakamura. Once Rumble was done and dusted with, it was clear who was going to win the Chamber match, even before the participants were announced!
This rivalry is also not unseen in WWE universe. At WrestleMania 31, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar were on the conclusion of their (heated?) rivalry and were contesting for Lesnar’s World Heavyweight Championship. The match turned into a sudden Triple threat match when Rollins decided to cash in his Money in the bank contract. Subsequently, pinning Reigns and winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Reigns prior to Rollins’ cash in ad already kicked out of three F-5s but was down with the fourth. Lesnar was already down with exhaustion after getting hit by three superman punches and three spear, two of which were back-to-back. So, we never came to a conclusion as to who’d have been the winner of that feud.
Since Reigns has been already established as the person who’d replace John Cena’s legacy; it makes sense to have him established as the strongest person on the roster right now. Lesnar’s claim to fame so far in WWE has been being the one in Undertaker’s 21-1 WrestleMania record. Well after Wrestlemania 33, Reigns accomplished the feat too, by pinning Undertaker after a third spear. So, now to establish himself again as ‘The Guy’ he would have to cross paths with Lesnar.
Surprisingly in this version of the feud, Roman actually has some solid points to be working against Lesnar, and make the crowd support him. Lesnar has been a part timer, and so much so that he hasn’t even yet wrestled a cumulative of an hour in the past year! That’s some champion Raw has. Reigns aims to be the Champion who’s defending his title every night, and at the very least be gracious enough to present to the crowd the “oh so rare nowadays” sight of Universal Championship Belt, more often than now! Both the players enter the Mania with some serious heat. It’s a predictable outcome, but….what is more interesting is how that outcome is reached. What happens when the Beast Incarnate collides with The Big Dog? That’s the question that will be answered at WrestleMania.
