The road to Wrestlemania for the superstars of the raw roster ended here at T-Mobile arena on February 25th 2018, with the conclusion of Elimination Chamber. The only thing that stands in front is Grandest stage of ‘em All: WrestleMania. We witnessed some top of class wrestling, and many performances already in line for Match of the Year.
Elimination Chamber, continuing the tradition of most of the WWE’s wrestling this year, gave us an enthralling experience, covering the entire spectrum of applauses, from forgettable matches between Miztourage and The Good Brothers; to moments to live by when Ronda Rousey performed a spinebuster on Triple H, through the table.
The report card on the event looked pretty much as expected:
Kickoff Show Tag team Match: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson V/S The Miztourage
Winner : Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson
Women’s Elimination Chamber Match for Raw’s Women’s Championship Title: Alexa Bliss (Champion) vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Mickie James vs. Sonya Deville vs. Mandy Rose
Winner: Alexa Bliss
Raw Tag team Championship Match: The Bar vs Titus Worldwide
Winner: The Bar
Asuka vs Nia Jax: Nia Jax gets added to WrestleMania title match if she wins
Woken Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt
Winner: Woken Matt Hardy
Men’s Elimination Chamber Match (Winner faces Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania for Universal Championship Title): John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor vs. The Miz vs. Elias vs. Braun Strowman
Winner: Roman Reigns
Kickoff Show Tag team Match:
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson V/S The Miztourage:
Anderson and Axel to start the match. After making a few quick tags among both the teams, Axel and Dallas work the heat on Anderson for quite some time. It even looked at times that WWE might have booked them into winning this one, but this is Anderson and Gallows we are talking about. They are a formidable as a tag team. So this one was sure to turn the tide when Anderson worked his way out of the corner trap and gave a hot tag to Gallows. Gallows ran wild and cleans the house and then causes Axel to crotch himself on the turnbuckle. Dallas is kicked off from the apron. Tag to Anderson, Magic Killer to Axel, and that’s it for the Miztourage.
Elimination Chamber 2018 Report Card
Alexa Bliss (Champion) vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Mickie James vs. Sonya Deville vs. Mandy Rose:
Bayley and Sonya Deville to start. They exchanged a slow build-up, a few prospective and lucrative uses of the chamber, and near falls. Overall, a bland performance. This was followed by the entry of Mandy Rose, which dragged the match even further, as Deville and Rose tried to double team Bayley. They had her number, Bayley was in no position to kick-out, still we didn’t see a pinfall. That writing there cringed me a bit. This nightmare (for Bayley and for me) ended when Sasha Banks next entered the match. Banks used her knees in every way possible, a gut wrench here double knees there. She singlehandedly cleared the house on the Absolution duo, and showed why they call her the Boss. Honestly this was my favourite segment. Bayley joins in. Double team on Deville and she gets whipped into the steel chains. Bank Statement on Mandy Rose, Bayley stops Deville from making the save. Mandy Rose gets eliminated. Mickey James enters the match. Thanks to a double clothesline, she levels Banks and Bayley. James and Banks exchange quick roll up one counts and then James sees an open Deville after she knocks Bayley off the chains. Thesz Press from top of the pod to Sonya Deville. Pin for 1,2,3! Sonya Deville gets eliminated. She celebrates by eating a Bayley to Belly (Outta’ Nowhere!?). Mickey James gets eliminated. The Horsewomen wait for the Champion’s pod to open up. Alexa Bliss gives us some funny and memorable segments by doing a Spiderman, jumping between pods and hanging from the chains to avoid Bayley and Banks, as they too follow up on her. Banks turns on Bayley and Bayley retaliates putting Banks out of action for sometime. This allows Bliss to take control. Bayley to Belly! Banks joins in the match. Bayley ties her up in Tree of Woe. Bliss sneaks in Superplex to Bayley. Banks with a frog splash, for a two count. Bayley to belly for Banks. Bliss capitalizes and pins Bayley. Bayley gets Eliminated. Banks tries a corner knee but Bliss avoids. Banks gets trapped; Twisted Bliss from the top of the pod. But she couldn’t cover because she is outside the ring. Banks finds strength to lock in Banks Statement, outside; she manages to roll in while maintaining the submission. Bliss fights out. Banks goes for the high risk. But bliss cuts her off and sends Banks off with an elevated DDT. That’s it for the Boss and The Goddess retains!
Raw Tag team Championship Match:
The Bar vs Titus Worldwide:
Pre-match Brawl between the teams. Apollo clears the house by a top rope dive. Match finally starts and we see The Bar making quick work on Apollo and working the heat on them, made sense as Apollo is the baby-face of the group (Titus is really annoying, can’t un-see after Nia pointed it out!). He finally makes a hot tag to Titus after a seemingly long segment of Bar creating momentum for themselves. Titus cleans house this time, goes for a sitout spinebuster on Sheamus. Tag to Apollo, enzuigiri follows, but Sheamus manages to tag Cesaro in. White Noise and Uppercut from second rope combination on Apollo. Pin for 1,2,3! And that’s game. Sheamus and Cesaro with a comfortable win.
Nia Jax gets added to WrestleMania title match if she wins:
Asuka tries to power her way out of this early(against Jax?). Jax hits turnbuckle, but comes back by just simply tossing Asuka around onto the mat. She applies a modified form of Bow and Arrow and follows up with a splash. Asuka goes for a knee Bar, but Jax powers out of it and slams Asuka into the corner. Jax goes for torture rack, Asuka counters, Jax counters again for a vertical suplex(Jackhammer?). After a few heated exchanges Jax sets up Asuka for a Samoan Drop from the top rope, But Asuka counters into a powerbomb. Jax goes mad, tries to run wild but Asuka Catches her with a leaping arm bar. Jax lifts Asuka, in the submission position and slams her into the corner. Asuka breaks the hold but cmes up with a roll up pin for victory. Post match Jax takes charge, throws Asuka into the ring post and then through the barricade and then leaves, leaving Asuka in destruction.
Woken Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt:
After getting countered for a running splash, Wyatt goes for the inverted spider walk, but Hardy smiles at him and applauds while shouting “Wonderful!” and so does the crowd. Wyatt looks puzzled (and that was funny!). Wyatt levels Hardy with a clothesline. DDT to Hardy for a two count. Wyatt locks in a rear chin lock, but Hardy fights back. Wyatt levels Hardy and then drives him face-first into the ring apron. Uranage onto the steps! No, Hardy blocks. Hardy hits a tornado DDT out of the corner and repeatedly slams Wyatt’s face into the top turnbuckle with the DELETE chants. Side Effect to Wyatt but only gets a two count. Wyatt regains control with a uranage and a running senton. Wyatt goes for a diving senton from the second turnbuckle, but Hardy rolls out of the way. Wyatt goes for Sister Abigail, but Hardy counters; Twist of Fate! And that’s it for the Eater of the Worlds! (He ate the pin today!)
‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey Contract Signing:
Stephanie &Triple H and Kurt Angle to start. McMahon says that we are all about to be a part of history. They take turns to praise Rousey, and hype her up. Triple H couldn’t remember an athlete of this caliber walking into WWE since a certain Olympic gold medallist (That’s actually a nice way to praise Kurt! Ronda Rousey chants from the crowd). Triple H introduces Ronda Rousey, and she makes her way to the ring. Rousey was almost speechless. The crowd was so invested into this, they started chanting her name, Ronda almost teared up and it showed how much this meant to her. Rousey said that she wouldn’t be here at all if it wasn’t for her hero, Rowdy Roddy Piper. She cuts a babyface promo about wanting to earn the fans’ respect. Triple H further clarifies this by stating that she asked for no special perks in her contract. Triple H announces that when Rousey signs the contract, she will get a match at WrestleMania. Rousey was about to sign her contract, but looks at Angle and Triple H in an argument. Rousey asks if there’s anything he wants to say. Angle grabs the mic and this is where the segment is saved: Angle revealed Triple H and Steph’s Masterplan, to keep Ronda under their thumb and get revenge for the time that she humiliated them at WrestleMania 31. Triple H interrupts by saying that Angle had the flu earlier this week and clearly isn’t feeling well (What?). Triple H shows Angle out of the ring as McMahon tries to talk Rousey into signing the contract. From the ramp, Angle reminds McMahon that earlier today she called Rousey a has-been. Rousey gets in McMahon’s face, but Triple H pulls her back. RONDA ROUSEY PUTS TRIPLE H THROUGH THE TABLE WITH A SPINE-BUSTER!!! McMahon slaps Rousey and then runs like hell before Rousey kills her. Rousey signs the contract and dumps it on Triple H before leaving the ring.
Men’s Elimination Chamber Match (Winner faces Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania for Universal Championship Title):
John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor vs. The Miz vs. Elias vs. Braun Strowman
Miz, Balor and Rollins to start. We soon see a team up between Rollins and Balor against the Miz. The miz gets planted onto the steel before these two square off with each other. But miz is back sooner than expected. Back breaker to Balor and springboard clothesline to Miz. DOUBLE BLOCKBUSTER TO MIZ AND BALOR. John Cena Enters the chamber. Protobomb to Rollins, Five-knuckle shuffle, but Rollins counters. Another Protobomb! Double five knuckle shuffle to Miz and Rollins. Cena went for the Double AA to Rollins and Balor, but both slip and Cena gets an Enzuigiri as a welcome gift. Cena goes for Balor and Rollins goes for Miz. Superplex to both! Reigns enters the match and cleans the house, before facing off with Rollins. Samoan drop to Cena, and sitout powerbomb to follow. Braun Strowman enters the chamber. Double team Superplex from Rollins and Cena gets countered into a double superplex from Braun. Miz climbs the top of the pod to evade. Strowman follows up. Catches Miz uptop and then toys around with him planting his face repeatedly on the plexiglass. He throws miz from the top of the pod onto the others. Running Powerslam to Miz. Miz gets eliminated. Elias enters the match, but decides to stay in the pod until the moment is right. Strowman is now the play toy for the remaining superstars. DOUBLE TEAM POWERBOMB transitioned into the pin by four men. BUT HE KICKS OUT! AA to Strowman, BUT HE KICKS OUT AGAIN. Spear by Reigns, BUT HE KICKS OUT. Curb stomp by Rollins to Strowman, he rolls to the side of the steel. Elias sees and opportunity and interferes with Rollins. Reigns makes the save but eats Halo Bomb. Elias is confident and goes for Halo Bomb on Strowman, but gets a Running Powerslam instead. Elias gets Eliminated. Cena goes for Diving Crossbody. But strowman Catches him; Running powerslam to Cena! Cena gets Eliminated. Balor does the Coup de Grace on Reigns, but fails to make the cover. Strowman with a Running Powerslam to Balor. Pin for 1,2,3! Balor gets Eliminated. Samoan drop to Braun on the steel followed by Frog splash from Rollins. But he still kicks out. Rollins goes for a curb stomp, but Strowman counters into the Powerslam. Rollins gets Eliminated. Reigns and Strowman are the last men standing. After getting tossed around for sometime and hitting two superman punches in vain, Reigns finds strength to make a comeback. He goes for a modified version of superman punch to Strowman who was on the second rope. Spear! An another one. The monster has been slayed! Reigns covers for the victory.
But wait! Braun is not done with you! After the match, Strowman power slams Reigns two times in the middle of the ring before whipping him through one of the pods, and the night comes to a conclusion.
